New York/Miami/Venice Project Space Proposal: Build a Gallery Near a Coastal Region Below Ground And Hold All Inventory on Hand In Hopes of an Insurance Pay Out For Inevitable Flooding

The art market is consistently poised to collapse, just as we know the environment is on the brink of destruction as well.

These two trends already seem to be merging in perennial art locales like Miami, Venice, and New York. 

Faced with rising rent and the prospect of dismal sales, a savvy business model for galleries would anticipate and encourage making no sales whatsoever.

We propose a small business that would use ecological destruction as an opportunity to eventually make money from unsold art through a property insurance claim.

The business would start with the purchase of a small land plot in an area expected to be destroyed by rising sea levels in the next 5 years. 

Once a location is decided, the gallery would be built into the ground with cinder block walls, intensifying the opportunity for flooding.

Artists would exhibit with the gallery knowing their work would not be returned to them, as all work exhibited would then be held in storage in the same precarious space afterward.

This way when the space inevitably floods the insurance claim could be filed for the maximum number of works destroyed. 

With the gallery engulfed in water and the insurance claim won, dirt can easily be shoveled over the top of the open hole of a gallery, and the property can be resold. 

The insurance money is split 50/50 between the gallery and artists, with artists receiving a share of the total amount based on the price of works donated for destruction.
